[General Description]

This standard specifies, as “Radiofrequency-Exposure Protection”, the nominal limit values of the strength of the electromagnetic field, and the specific absorption rate (SAR), which are considered not to affect human body which is exposed in the electromagnetic field in radio use, without causing undesirable electromagnetic phenomena (heat up in the deep part of human body, electric shock, high-frequency heat wound, etc.). This standard also prescribes the outline of the estimation methods (calculation methods, experiment methods, etc.) and the measurement procedures of the strength of the electromagnetic field which are required for the evaluation.
This standard covers electromagnetic fields in the frequency range from 10 kHz to 300 GHz, but electromagnetic exposure to patients for medical purposes is out of the scope.

In addition to the standard in the general public environment stipulated by laws and regulations, also defined are the standard in the occupational environment and auxiliary standards related to contact current and induced current.

To confirm the conformity of some particular radio equipment to this standard in detail, ARIB technical report “Methods of Evaluating Compliance for Radiofrequency-Exposure Protection Standard” (ARIB TR-T11) or ARIB Standard “Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Estimation for Cellular Phone” (ARIB STD-T56 Ver. 3.3) shall be applied mutatis mutandis.
